Timeline is a new feature on the contact and matter pages that displays events that have taken place on their respective pages and lists them in a reverse chronological order (newest activity at the top). This feature makes it much easier to figure out what activities have taken place, when they happened and which user took action on them. You will also be able to see all scheduled events and due dates in the “Upcoming” portion of the timeline.
Matter vs Contact
The timeline feature is very similar between the contact and matter pages. The biggest difference is that since certain actions can only take place on a matter, such as creating tasks, adding notes, preparing forms and document, the matter timeline can display more activity items. Keep in mind any tasks and notes created on the matter page will only show on the matter timeline and not the contact timeline.
Types of Items on the Contact Timeline
Notes: All notes taken will display on the timeline with the newest items appearing on the top. Users can edit and delete notes from the timeline
Emails: Individual emails are tracked on the timeline. The timeline will display the "To:" and "From:" fields as well as the subject line and body of the email. Emails that are sent with a form, document or appointment do not get tracked on the timeline. This is also the case with reminder emails.
Tasks: Incomplete tasks will show up on the timeline if they have a designated due date. If the Task is marked as complete an activity marker will show up on the timeline indicating the time the task was marked as complete and by which user. This makes it easy to hold staff members accountable for deadlines.
Appointments: Appointments will show up on the timeline so that you can see when the appointment is scheduled in relation to other scheduled events and due dates.
Activities: The timeline will also track activities taken on the matter. This includes the sending of a document or form and the creation of tasks and appointments. Furthermore, the timeline will also display when these items have been completed.
Upcoming vs Past
The timeline will show items that are both upcoming and items that have happened in the past.
Upcoming events include:
- Due Dates
- Scheduled Appointments
- Scheduled Emails
This makes it very easy for users to see what events are already planned for the matter.
