MailChimp is a marketing automation platform and an email marketing service that allows users to send out mass emails and newsletters. The MailChimp integration gives users the ability to categorize their contacts into groups which they can assign to email lists in MailChimp. The groups are created in Lexicata using a combination of Contact Types and Tags. Once the criteria is set up in Lexicata any contacts who match that criteria will be automatically added to the appropriate email list in MailChimp.
Signing up in Mailchimp
Creating a MailChimp is the first step in the process for getting the integration working. MailChimp offers a free subscription up to 2,000 subscribers on your email list and up to 12,000 emails per month. Beyond those metrics a paid account is required.

The next step is to create lists that you want to be able to mass email. A list can be as broad or specific as you want. For instance, a list might be a "Holiday List" or "Referral Partners" or "Leads" or as simple as "All Contacts." The point of these lists is to be able to easily communicate with a group of contacts via one mass email. Lexicata will populate these lists with contacts at a later point.
Once your lists are created in MailChimp, you will want to link the your MailChimp account with your Lexicata account. Navigate to the Integrations page in your Lexicata settings. Here you will find a MailChimp logo. Simply click on the Mailchimp Logo and follow the prompts to authenticate the integration. This will require you to input your credentials for your MailChimp account. When this is complete you should get a message stating “You are connected to Mailchimp!”
Connecting Lexicata Contacts to Mail Lists
Now that you have connected your Lexicata and MailChimp accounts, you can set up the contact groups in Lexicata to sync to your MailChimp Lists. Clicking the “Connect new email list” will bring up a pop-up with 4 options. First, pick the mail list you wish to sync to. Next decide the criteria for the types of contacts that you want to be added to this list. For example, you can choose to add the contacts that have a Contact Type of “Client” and have the Tag “New York”. Check the box to add all existing contacts with this criteria to this MailChimp list. If this box is not selected then only future contacts that match this criteria will be added to the list.
Now that you have connected your first list, you should see the number of contacts that are assigned to this MailChimp list start to climb. Keep in mind, there are some factors that could affect this number. Only contacts that have email addresses in Lexicata will get added to the list and only person contacts will get added.
If the list is not updating, please give the program some time. Sometimes it can take up to 5 minutes for the contacts in Lexicata to sync to the list in MailChimp.
The number of groups that you can connect to MailChimp list is only limited by the number of lists that you have in MailChimp. Please keep in mind that only one group of contacts can be connected at a time to a Mailchimp list.
Connecting the right contacts to the correct lists in MailChimp is highly dependent on the contacts correctly fitting the criteria you set. For this reason, it is very important that the Tags and Contact Types are not only applied to each contact but that all users are aware of which Contact Type and Tag combinations result in the contact being added to MailChimp lists.
